Janet Coleson is a shareholder in the
Public Law Department at Richards, Watson & Gershon's San Francisco
office. Currently, Ms. Coleson is Agency Counsel for the Sonoma
County Waste Management Agency and Assistant City Attorney for the
Cities of Fairfield, Fairfax and Mill Valley. Ms. Coleson has served
as City Attorney for the City of El Cerrito and has provided Special
Counsel services to the Cities of Fremont, Vallejo and Benicia.
In addition to advising clients on the full range of issues facing
public agencies, Janet has given numerous presentations and provided
training on complying with the California Public Records Act, the
Brown Act, and AB 1234. Ms. Coleson is a member of the Firm's Climate
Change practice group, which focuses on developing strategies for
cities to respond to requests for green building ordinances, purchasing
policies, and issues related to global warming.
Before joining Richards, Watson & Gershon, Ms. Coleson served
as Deputy City Attorney for the cities of Milpitas and Morgan Hill.
Prior to attending law school, Ms. Coleson was an environmental
and land use planner for the City of New York and El Segundo, California.
Ms. Coleson is a member of the American Planning Association and
maintains certification with the American Institute of Certified
Planners (AICP).
