Janet E. Coleson is a shareholder in
the Public Law Department at Richards, Watson & Gershon. Ms.
Coleson is Agency Counsel for the Sonoma County Waste Management
Agency, Assistant City Attorney for the Cities of Fairfield, Fairfax
and Mill Valley and former City Attorney for the City of El Cerrito.
In addition to advising clients on the full range of issues facing
public agencies, Ms. Coleson is a member of the Firm's E-Documents
and Public Records practice group. She has given numerous presentations
and provided training on complying with the California Public Records
Act, the Brown Act, and AB 1234. Ms. Coleson also is a member of
the Firm's Climate Change practice group, which is developing strategies
for cities to respond to requests for green building ordinances,
purchasing policies, and issues related to global warming.
Before joining RW&G, Ms. Coleson served as Deputy City Attorney
for the cities of Milpitas and Morgan Hill. Prior to attending law
school, Ms. Coleson was an environmental and land use planner for
the City of New York and El Segundo, California. Ms. Coleson is
a member of the American Planning Association and the American Institute
of Certified Planners.
